Kathy ‘s artistry evokes an emotional response from her audience through the use of vibrant colors, exaggeration, repetition, movement and contrast. She truly brings depth and dimension to a flat surface and strives to create artworks which stir the soul, the center of all beauty.
Interested in art as a young child, she used to practice by sketching the “Draw Me” subject on the backs of matchbook covers. She had always been involved with the arts, specifically music through classical piano instruction for eight years and singing in choruses. She discovered her love of the visual medium when a co-worker encouraged her to take a watercolor class at Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. From then on art was her passion! Art has remained a strong desire ever since. She was not able to devote the time needed to hone her talents until recently, when she concluded her career and after raising her family. She continues to advance her skills through continual study, attending workshops from local and nationally recognized artists.
She also discovered her love for teaching watercolors and has held classes, workshops and is planning a trip abroad to teach in Italy in 2011.
She has received the following awards:
2009 President – Whatcom Art Guild

Kathy Rae’s Philosophy on Art:
“Life beats you down and crushes the soul, and art reminds us that we have one.” Anonymous
There are many highs and lows along the path of life. By depicting these experiences through the visual medium of painting, I am truly blessed to share this with others. I always endeavor to bring depth and dimension to my watercolors through the use of vibrant colors, interesting techniques and strong composition.
